Hi there:
I would like to appreciate all the efforts of this wonderful toolbox provided!
I have downloaded v2.0 and tried to import it into Matlab R2016b – academic.
I clicked “Install App” and then “Install”, but got no further notice and response from Matlab.
And no button was added to the APPS list.
Any idea how I can fix this?
Thank you!
Regards, Xiao
Hi George:
Thank you for your quick reply!
I tried to install the app onto MATLAB in my laptop and it works well.
So your guess is right, it is something to do with the administrative rights in the computer in my uni.
I will let you know if there’s any further queries.
Thank you!
Regards,
Xiao
Hi Xiao!
Thank you very much for your good comments.
You can manually open the file Abaqus2MatlabSetUp.m and run it (press F5) to install the library permanently. This step is critical for installing the application in order to avoid problems that appear when the various files are placed in different directories.
Please let me know if everything goes well after this.
Best regards,
George
Hi George:
Thank you so much for your detailed reply!
Both the information on the installation and CZM fitting would be very helpful!
I followed the method you mentioned and can now successfully see the GUI in MATLAB by running “Abaqus2Matlab_GUI_v01.m”.
But no response was received when I tried “Tools -> Install Library Permanently”. Is it fine for me to use the toolbox function even if I skip this step?
Thank you!
Regards,
Xiao
Hi Xiao!
You can make use of the second version of Abaqus2Matlab without installing it as an application on Matlab software, but by doing the following:
1) Extract the files from the Abaqus2Matlab_Toolbox2.00_Win.mlappinstall file into any directory on your PC in which you have administrative rights
2) Open the file Abaqus2Matlab_GUI_v01.m in Matlab and run it (press F5)
3) On the Abaqus2Matlab GUI window that appears, go to Tools -> Install Library Permanently. A new Matlab script will open. Run this script (press F5). Ignore any warning messages.
4) Follow the instructions in section "7.1. Abaqus2Matlab GUI" of the Abaqus2Matlab documentation to use Abaqus2Matlab for you needs.
To access the CZM example which is included in the Abaqus2Matlab app, go to the folder ...\files\example\Cohesive zone modeling to access the files there directly, or go to section "6.4. Cohesive zone modeling" of the Abaqus2Matlab documentation.
You can use either the 2nd version or the 1st version of Abaqus2Matlab for the CZM fitting function. However, your programming efforts will be much larger if you use the older version (1st). The 2nd version is more user-friendly.
Regarding getting the optimized parameters of a trapezoidal CZM using Abaqus2Matlab, you can certainly use Abaqus2Matlab for this purpose, provided that your optimization problem is properly formulated. Actually, Abaqus2Matlab can be used for any optimization problem that involves transferring of data between Abaqus and Matlab.
I hope this helps.
Best,
George
Hi George:
Thank you for your quick reply!
I tried the command you provided and received no response, so I guess the app is not installed.
And you are probably right, the reason could be the administrator privilege of my computer, which is based on the university network and could cause this problem.
As my main interest using abaqus2matlab toolbox lies in the CZM fitting function, is it still necessary for me to install the app with any update in version 2? Or I can still use the code in version 1?
A further interest in my area is that, is it possible to get the optimized parameters of a trapezoidal CZM using the code?
Thank you again for your kind help!
Regards,
Xiao
Hello Xiao,
Thank you very much for your interest and good comments about Abaqus2Matlab.
Please execute appinfo = matlab.apputil.getInstalledAppInfo at the Matlab command window and see what it gives. If the Abaqus2Matlab application is installed on Matlab, then this should give relevant information. Otherwise, the Abaqus2Matlab application is not installed on Matlab. In this case, you should firstly check if you have administrator privileges to the installation folder in which you try to install Abaqus2Matlab. Please let me know if the above solve your problem.
Best,
George
